Join the SAH/SCC for an exclusive visit to the newly rehabilitated Grand Central Air Terminal (1930, H. L Gogerty) in Glendale. As Los Angeles’ first commercial airport, the Terminal was the heart of the nascent aviation industry and where Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart and Howard Hughes pushed the limits of technology ushering in the future of air travel.

Project preservation architect John LoCasio will provide insight into the rehabilitation effort that brought one of Southern California’s most important historic sites back to life. The building’s unique design combines the popular Spanish Colonial Revival style of the period with Zig-Zag Moderne influences. Unique details include winged sentries clutching propellers atop the five-story control tower.

In additional to the special “behind the scenes” lecture presentation, this exclusive event will include access to the site, historic spaces within the building and the GCAT Interpretive Center which contains exhibits featuring original artifacts, photographs, ephemera and also a short educational film on the history of the site and its transformation.

Don’t miss this very special opportunity to visit an architectural and cultural treasure! Anyone interested in design, LA history and aviation will find it fascinating.

Tickets are required for this event and seating is limited. SAH/SCC member tickets are $20; non-member tickets are $35. Members limit 2 tickets at the discounted rate.
