Aug. 15 -- See Our City's Best: Adventures in Santa Monica Tour

"Adventures in Santa Monica" is the Conservancy's next tour and you won't want to miss it! On Sunday, August 15, from 11am-3pm, the tour will take you to out-of-the way, off-the-beaten track or behind-the-scenes at ten sites in and near Santa Monica. Docents will be stationed at each site to give you the scoop.

Tour Adventures
Civic Auditorium—Get a memorable hydraulic lift on the landmark auditorium’s unique moveable floor
Inkwell Beach— There was a time when racial tension at local beaches forced the black community to congregate unbothered at this less desirable spot. Learn about the history of Inkwell Beach which became the only part of Santa Monica Beach open to African-Americans and the place where many young African-American surfers got their start.
Gabrielino/Tongva Springs—Discover natural springs, formerly a Native-American settlement from which, legend has it, that Santa Monica derived its name. Led by a tribal member docent.
Artist Studios—Meet the artists with their art, up-close and personal, in this converted historic airport hangar at the Santa Monica Airport
California Wash Mural—Walk the serpentine garden with its landscape sculpture, mimicking the path that waters took to reach the sea before the city’s development replaced the natural washes with storm drains.
Angel's Attic—Enter the world of antique and contemporary dollhouses along with miniatures, dolls and toys in a charming Victorian house.
Carousel Apartments—Musicians, artists, and activists once lived above the carousel. Take a tour of the apartments turned offices.
Ferris Wheel—Take a ride and learn about our solar-powered Ferris wheel whose light designs are computer-generated.
Popeye at Woodlawn Cemetery—Popeye in-person will tell you about the short but remarkable life of his creator, Elzie Segar, at Segar’s grave in the cemetery. Bring your own spinach.
Living Homes--tour this design prototype for modular, sustainable houses.
